Breaking the Mould was a pilot Theatre in Education production focusing on ‘Disability Awareness’. It involved a specific non-verbal theatre piece, devised by Shadowbox Theatre Company in conjunction with a pre and post show interactive educational workshop. The production was presented to 5 primary and 5 secondary schools in Co. Wicklow
This project stemmed from a long term aim and commitment, to both provide high standard professional theatre opportunities for people with learning disabilities and a desire to create a forum for disability awareness through positive images of people with disabilities.
Production Aims
- To encourage the audience to dare to challenge both their perceptions of intellectual disability and of Theatre and how it is presented.
- To develop a model of work, adhering to strong artistic and educational standards.
- To develop a model of work to be accessed by a wider number of schools in the future
Breaking the Mould was funded by Wicklow Rural Partnership through the Leader + programme.
