Outside

Outside

(Nominated for The Irish Theatre Awards- Judges Special Award 2005)

Outside was a nationally cast professional tour by performers with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues, which played to Theatres and non-traditional venues during 2005 and into 2006, including, internationally at the Ranum Theatre Festival, Denmark.

Outside is the exciting and haunting devised theatre piece created by Shadowbox and their resident company of actors with intellectual disabilities. The piece premiers at the Ranum International Theatre Festival in Denmark before touring Ireland.

Outside forces you into a different world, a world where communication does not rely on words but on emotional gesture. Set outside a timeless circus tent, the piece explores what it feels like to be outside, not allowed in, to have someone else decide that you should have no home, no child, no right to wander freely.
Shadowbox continue to develop their particular visual theatre style with this piece, capturing an audience’s senses and imagination with images, emotion and body language.
‘Welcome to the imperfect but beautiful Outside’.
